After playing a competitive first half, the Raptors were shelled in the third quarter and eventually dropped a 21-point decision to the NBA-leading Grizzlies.

In one of their worst defensive outings of the season, the Raptors allowed Houston to shoot 53% from the field and 50% from three-point land. Toronto failed to build off of a competitive game against the Spurs, as James Harden and Jeremy Lin carved up their defence, both finishing with double-digit assist totals. Terrence Ross provided the lone bright spot for the Raptors, as he registered career-highs of 19 points and 5 rebounds.

The Raptors followed up their infuriating loss in Philadelphia on Tuesday with a tough one-point loss in Charlotte on Wednesday, dropping to 3-9 on the season and severely damaging the hope of eventual playoff contention many fans had for this team. And no, it’s not too early to say that.

I was obviously expecting a Raptors loss in Boston today, especially when it was revealed that Rajon Rondo would return to Boston’s lineup, so I can’t say I’m frustrated or disappointed with the result itself. But when the Raps dig themselves a 16-point first half hole to a vastly superior team, then claw back to make it a two-point game late in the third quarter, it’s hard not to be frustrated at a final spread of 19 points.
