Pre-season Primer: Comprehensive Off-season Review

The last game of a painful and somewhat meaningless (from a win/loss perspective) 2011-2012 season is a distant memory, with Ben Uzoh’s triple-double lifting the Raptors over the Nets now nearly half a year in the rear view mirror. The highly anticipated and much more meaningful 2012-2013 season unofficially gets underway on Monday with a pre-season opener against Spain’s Real Madrid.

Okay, so the opening game of a supposedly more meaningful season is actually meaningless. But you get the point.

We’re all pretty stoked to get this 18th season in Raptors history tipped off, but before we do, let’s look back on the 2012 off-season, and how we got to this present moment of excitement.

Story Shines Light On Nash Sweepstakes

Nearly a week removed from the madness that was the Steve Nash sweepstakes, ESPN’s Marc Stein wrote a fascinating piece detailing the scenes as Nash embarked on his big decision. It’s certainly worth a read, and based on how directly involved the Raptors were during the whole saga, the story, “How Steve Nash Became A Laker,” has a ton of Raptors-related tid-bits.

RaptorBlog Radio: Nash/Lowry/Bayless/Fields Edition

Reports: Lakers Swoop In to Steal Nash – What Now?

Everyone thought the competition for Steve Nash’s services was being fought between the Raptors and Knicks. The Mavericks were seen as a formidable team in the mix once they lost out on Deron Williams.

Earlier on Wednesday, New York looked like the overwhelming favourites.

And then, just like that, news began to break Wednesday evening that the Lakers, who hadn’t even really been mentioned in the Nash sweepstakes until Tuesday, had swooped in to steal Nash.
