NOTE: A day after this post was written, trade talks between Toronto and Charlotte fell apart and it is now believed that Tyson Chandler and Boris Diaw will remain in Charlotte while Jose Calderon and Reggie Evans will remain in Toronto. The deal sending Hedo Turkoglu to Phoenix in exchange for Leandro Barbosa is still considered likely to be completed.
A source has told The Score that the Toronto Raptors and Charlotte Bobcats are in the process of finalizing a deal that will send point guard Jose Calderon and expiring contracts to the Charlotte Bobcats in exchange for Boris Diaw and Tyson Chandler. Sources could not confirm that the trade call has been made to the league as final details are still being worked out. Sources say the expiring contract of Reggie Evans is believed to be going to Charlotte with Calderon.
Staying true to his word about evolving rather than rebuilding in the wake of Chris Bosh’s departure, Raptors GM Bryan Colangelo has gotten the ball rolling. From Arizona, Paul Coro reported that the Raptors and Suns agreed to a trade that would send forward Hedo Turkoglu to Phoenix in exchange for guard Leandro Barbosa and, most likely, forward/center Dwayne Jones.
At the end of a disappointing season in which the Raptors did not make the playoffs and point guards Jarrett Jack and Jose Calderon struggled to find their rhythm as a tandem, moving one was a priority. The agreed-upon trade would send Calderon to Charlotte, helping the Raptors to accomplish this goal while also freeing themselves of a very unattractive, hefty contract in the deal that sends Turkoglu to Phoenix.
Colangelo has revamped the roster since losing franchise big man Bosh, who headed to South Beach to play with Dwyane Wade and LeBron James. Assuming the trade goes through, in the past week Colangelo has locked up Amir Johnson, gotten rid of disgruntled Turkoglu, cleared the logjam at point guard and nabbed two potential starters in Diaw and Chandler.
As more information becomes available, this post will be updated.
UPDATE: Tyson Chandler has confirmed to Y! Sports that he has been traded to the Toronto Raptors according to the Twitter account of Marc Spears. There you go, guys. Will fill in the rest of the blanks as info becomes available.
