At the very least, most professional athletes will cop to being a little stitious, and some will even admit that they’re superstitious. Whether it’s minor things like writing a favorite saying on a pair of shoes or totally weird things like eating the same meal at the same time every day, these guys like to have their little neuroses that help them deal with the stress of playing games for money. And when it comes to superstitious basketball players, no one is more famous for his superstitions than Dallas Mavericks guard.

As we’ve all heard, Terry has to wear five pairs of socks for games. He has to eat chicken before every game. And, strangest of all, the night before a game, he sleeps in the game shorts of his upcoming opponent because he’s a big weirdo.

However, the superstitions don’t end when he hits the court. In fact, sometimes, the things that literally hit the court are the problem. From the ESPN Dallas:

Jason Terry finished Monday night’s inspired win over the New Orleans Hornets with a flurry. His final stat line read: 9-of-19 from the field, including 3-of-6 from beyond the 3-point arc.

It was quite a turnaround from his first half: 2-of-11 and 0-of-3.

“He came in at halftime, changed his shoes and look what happened in the second half,” guard J.J. Barea said. “So he blamed it on the shoes.” [...]

“I’m a shooter. I’m going to keep shooting. Nothing’s changed in that respect,” Terry said. “If it was tough shots then I would have been concerned. But, they weren’t tough shots. I was missing wide-open looks, shots that I practice. I just told myself, change your shoes at halftime, get a new feel and come back firing.”

Hey, whatever works, right? If Jason Terry really feels like he needs new Reebok Zigs to make some wide open threes, then he should get some new Reebok Zigs on his feet. He obviously knows that his footsies perform best when they have a fresh pair of squiggly kicks, so change every halftime for all I care.

Clearly, the old shoe change at halftime trick is pretty common. Dwyane Wade tried it and nothing changed. But when Jason Terry did it, he became an awesome basketball player. I don’t want to put ideas in his mouth, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this became a new part of his routine.
