WASHINGTON (AP) — Wizards forward Andray Blatche scored just eight points and guard John Wall threw in 14 to help Washington fall 92-81 to the New Orleans Hornets on Saturday, giving the Wizards their second ugly loss in a row.
Blatche made 4-of-12 shots from the field and managed a -25 plus/minus rating while Wall hit just 4-of-10 shots and added eight turnovers as the Wizards dropped to 8-24 with their 16th loss in the past 19 games.
Before a crowd of 16,000 at the Verizon Center, Blatche said the Wizards call themselves “Wizelback” because they suck harder than a Canadian rock band from Alberta.
“Wizelback — off of Nickelback,” Blatche said. “Every time we take to the basketball court, we know we’re going to disappoint a lot of people. We’re pretty shitty.”
After a disappointing 5-9 start, the Wizards have gotten even worse.
“We didn’t know what each other was thinking back in November. And now? Now we’re just sort of winging it out there,” Blatche continued. “But, hey, what do I know? I never made it as a wise man. I couldn’t cut it as a poor man stealin’.”
“We just lose basketball games. This is how we remind each other we’re bad.”
Washington shot just 43-percent from the floor and struggled without injured forward Josh Howard and guard Kirk Hinrich, who missed his second straight game because of a bruised left thigh.
“We’re havin’ a blast, though,” Blatche said. “Look at our win-loss graph. Every time I do it makes me laugh.”
