Shaquille O’Neal is generally considered one of the funniest basketball players in the league, despite an oeuvre that seems to consist exclusively of stone-faced one syllable answers that everyone laughs at because he’s a scary giant. But then you see him face-to-face with one of the most hilarious dudes of all-time and you remember that Shaq’s just athlete funny. Big difference.

Nonetheless, this clip comes recommended for a few reasons: Shaq’s complete inability to grab the hood on his blazer, the presence of a hooded blazer, Shaq’s word association response to “Pat Riley,” a Zelmo Beaty reference and, of course, Letterman’s masterful interviewing skills that make a even conversation with a guy who insists on repeating the same terrible joke over and over extremely watchable. He’s the best.

Letterman, that is. Though, I suppose, Shaq’s pretty cool too.
