Congratulations to Pat Riley, who was named the Sporting News Executive of the Year, which is a legit award that is recognized by the NBA even though they give their own out as well. Nonetheless, easy choice. Any time one guy can convince Joel Anthony to sign a 5-year, $18 million contract, then acquire Erick Dampier AND Mike Bibby during the season is a shoe-in for this award. Throw in guaranteed deals for Jerry Stackhouse, Dexter Pittman and Patrick Beverly and this becomes even more of a no-brainer.

Oh, also Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh. Maybe something to do with that.

  1. not sure how much riley deserves it since he didn’t really have to do much except get rid of everyone from last year ‘s team (minus wade) for next to nothing counts. i guess the award really should go to wade, james and bosh since they agreed to do this back in the ’08 olympics.

  2. Anyone who can turn Michael Beasley into a second-round pick – at the expense of cold-eyed genius David Kahn, no less! – richly deserves any and all accolades that come his way.

  3. I would’ve voted for him based on hair alone.
