Shaquille O'Neal

Every Friday for the remainder of the NBA playoffs, I’m going to collect numbers that I think you might find interesting and post them without commentary. Inspired by the monthly “Harper’s Index” that Harper’s Magazine has published since 1984, these posts will hopefully enlighten, surprise, entertain and occasionally inflame you. When deemed necessary, I’ll include links to the source material. Note: One of the stats in each post might be made up — click on the source links to discover which one is fake.

  1. I never knew Poot Carr played for the Magic.

  2. I did not need to read the last one. smh.

  3. Yeah, the last one was mighty sickening and not funny.

  4. For the record, I didn’t make that last story up, and I got some corroboration from a reliable source that Manute was capable of doing this. Obviously, I wasn’t there when M.J. told this story, but he was apparently asked what was the most interesting thing he ever saw in his NBA career and that was his answer. I’m sorry, but if you don’t think that’s funny, I don’t know what else to say.

  5. I did not realize a knotted penis was so funny, Mr. Carefoot. Forgive me for not having the same sense of humor as you.

  6. Geez, Mr. Satan. If you’re the same Mr. Satan that comments over at Hardwood Paroxysm, why do you spend so much time criticizing basketball blogs?

  7. @ zoo: I have a reason for criticizing Hardwood Paroxysm, and that reason would be their unbearable Heat bias. For example, when the Heat won game 1 of the Finals, whoever was the writer sure didn’t hesitate in whipping up a recap post. On the other hand, when the Mavericks won, nothing…which is why I left some comments on there mentioning if they’re only going to post new articles only when the Heat win. How was that Mavericks comeback/Heat meltdown not worth writing about? And for the record, it was only Hardwood Paroxysm that I had some slight criticism for. I love The Basketball Jones, it’s a really cool, unique Basketball blog, I just don’t think this Carefoot fellow is funny. So, zoo, are you done criticizing my slight criticism?

  8. Criticizers gonna criticize…. lol

  9. I love how “somebody who [claims to know] somebody who [claims he] plays golf with MJ [claims] that MJ [claims] to have seen [that horrible/funny thing]” is somehow a reliable source. Still funny ‘tho.
