It’s the summer. There’s an NBA lockout. We’re bored as hell and we’re not going to take it anymore!

Welcome to The [BLANK] Jones …

On today’s show, Bethlehem Shoals joins us to discuss The Classical, a new online sports publication attempting to launch via Kickstarter. What makes this sports site unique? Which writers will be involved? Why is an elevator a bad place to start a conversation? All that, plus a discussion of why Shoals decided to join the oft-maligned Bleacher Report. (Hint: It may or may not have something to do with hummingbirds.)

Enjoy the podcast, and support The Classical.

  1. It’s on feedburner for some reason…Guess I gotta wait a bit.

  2. It’s NOT on feedburner that is.

  3. It’s on there now, Hector. Sorry for the delay.

  4. Ugh, come on Shoals.

First you shut down your website (which was great), then you’re writing occasional articles for GQ, then you join Bleacher Report and now you’re starting a new site?

Come on, just pick a place already!

  5. Hmmm…. the lulz were severely lacking in this podcast -__-

No offense to the jones (u guys are great) but add Shoals to the list of the only times I will NOT be listening to the podcast. Kelly Dwyer and Adrian Woj. are the other two on the list.

I mean holy windbag batman, we get it bro you’re starting a sports website and yes you can call it a blog. Stop trying to re-invent the wheel you blowhard.

It’s okay Tas I liked your jokes hahaha.

  6. Tas Melas = Barbara Walters
But weak show today, this bitch yaps like my ex-gf =/

  7. I’n comic book store man voice “worst jones ever”

  8. Regarding slideshows, it’s not always a matter of content that upsets people. It’s that the pages reload on each click, making things more difficult on the user and all in an effort to goose a page view number that any real business would question if advertising on the site. Creating a nice, user-friendly slideshow using Javascript is a possibility for any site, yet it’s the one place where content creators make it more difficult to enjoy the site.

  9. Why does Shoals insist on making me forget how great FreeDarko was with his blowhardness? You’re a sports blogger, dude, don’t take yourself so seriously.

  10. This was the first episode of the Basketball/Blank Jones that I took no enjoyment from. From beginning to end, Shoals was oddly defensive, angry, entitled and incredulous. Why was he appearing on the show when he was so clearly bothered by the task of having to be there?

He seemed to be getting reflexively angry not only at Tas/Skeets/JD/Matt, but seemingly at the listening audience. Suffice it to say I won’t be contributing to his Kickstarter campaign, and, honestly, I hope they fail. There are too many talented writers who need support out there who AREN’T total self-aggrandizing, entitled assholes. Shoals can eat a bag of dicks.

  11. Looks like I’m not the only who hated this episode. It was like I was put in a sleeper hold, but I tapped out so I wouldn’t get violated when I blacked out. Please leave shameless plug topics on the curb.

  12. That was a boring!

  13. man i was heading over here to mention how much of a blowhard this guy is. thanks for stealing my thunder, guys
