Pretty great story from Jalen Rose right here — talking about how you’re not supposed to Bruce Bowen your opponents, except for the one time he did that exact same thing to Kobe Bryant in the 2000 NBA Finals. And though Jalen equivocates a little bit at the end there, claiming he’s not really sure if he stuck his foot under Kobe’s on purpose of not, watching the play makes it pretty obvious.

Just look at how Jalen juts his leg out, basically mirroring the worst Bruce Bowens that Bruce ever Bowened. Pretty anti-cool move.

However, as Jalen said, eventually Kobe Bryant hung 81 on a Jalen Rose team a few years later. And knowing Kobe, he probably did it because he remembers spraining his ankle on Jalen Rose. That guy won’t let anything slide, especially not one of the jerkiest moves you can pull on a basketball court.

  1. This was a pretty amazing admission. The Jalen Rose show is pretty entertaining. He’s alarmingly honest, and his insights/analysis are mostly interesting. He’s not on Barkley’s level but who is.

  2. Even worse: Being reminded just how horrible Bob Costas was at calling the NBA and having to relive it.

  3. A nice set-shot would protect anyone from getting “Bowened”.

I think Jalen did the best job of guarding him that 81 point night. Holding him to a pace of around 57. Jalen claims the Raptor’s head coach, Sam Mitchell at the time, intentionally played lesser defenders on Kobe to teach his team a lesson. I wish I was a Raptors fan.

  4. Yeah Trey, you kinda suck…..
You don’t know what winnig’s about.

Winning’s so messed up that you’ll cheat in order to win.
No regrets. No honor. No friends.

    Just the win…
It’s at the same time glorious and weak and shameful.

As a Bulls fan, you should understand that.

  5. He’s just giving the people what they want…

  6. Jalen’s a cool dude. I used to go to U of M basketball games when I was a kid and wait outside the stadium for the players to come out. Jalen was without a doubt the coolest of the Fab 5.

Webber always went straight to the car. Juwan, Jimmy and Ray signed autographs on the way to the car. Jalen stayed and signed for everybody that wanted an autograph. He’d joke it up and have a good time.
