Some guys have all the luck. NBA’s all-time leading scorer, a statue outside the Staples Center AND a cameo role on the pilot episode of sure-to-be-long-lived sitcom “Guys with Kids” where he dunks a baby like that is a real thing that people do? Looks like everything is coming up Kareem.

As we all know, getting a statue outside the Staples Center is literally the most important thing in the world to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Even though they told him numerous times that he’d be getting a statue eventually, the Lakers just couldn’t forge one quick enough for Kareem’s liking.

In theory, then, today is the greatest day of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s life, as his greatest injustice has finally been remedied. From the Los Angeles Times:

The Lakers plan to unveil a statue of Hall of Fame center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar outside Staples Center during the 2012-13 season, The Times has learned.

No date for unveiling the statue has been finalized.

It is great that this national tragedy — the one about Kareem Abdul-Jabbar not getting a statue quite as soon as he would have liked, which is the dictionary definition of “tragic” — has finally ended. I, for one, haven’t been able to sleep for the past year knowing we were still waiting for Kareem’s statue to be built. It’s good to finally put this to rest.

Really though, there’s no Laker who deserves a statue more and doesn’t already have one than Kareem. Five titles, three MVPs, his number is retired, blah blah blah Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is good and everyone knows it and he has the most stats ever. Of course he should get a statue, which is the greatest honor a man can be given apparently. Which is why he said honor was bestowed upon him, like he was told would happen, which he still complained about.

So now we just need to figure out what Kareem’s statue is going to look like. But even that is pretty easy to figure out because it will be Kareem shooting a skyhook while wearing a Skyhook t-shirt. That is both his iconic pose and his iconic look that he always wears, so that’s what it needs to be. Sure, you might think he should be in a Lakers jersey, but trust me when I tell you he’d definitely want to be wearing a Skyhook tee. I would be fine with the jacket, but I think Kareem would prefer the shirt.
