Because Yao Ming is awesome, he is using his status as one of the most famous people from the world’s most populous nation for good by doing stuff like attending parliament sessions to discuss the development of China and what he can do to help. And because he’s literally a giant, it always looks crazy. So without further ado, here’s what it’s like when Yao attends a political conference.
First of all, he has to sit on the side because he’s way too tall. That’s just common courtesy for a tallie, so it’s not too surprising. So he doesn’t get lonely, people will occasionally join him.
As you can see, Yao always pays attention. Sometimes he doesn’t like what he hears and has to think really hard about what’s been said.
At first I thought Yao Ming’s squatty golf stance was the funniest thing about Yao Ming golfing, but then I saw him swing. Then, right when I thought his swing was the funniest part, Yao struck the classic “Disgusted at his golf shot” look and pose while wearing hilarious golf glasses and nipping out.
That’s when I realized I’d watch an entire 18-hole round of Yao Ming golfing. So good.
The main purpose of this post is to direct your attention to this fantastic Reddit AMA (“Ask Me Anything”) thread conducted by Houston Rockets GM Daryl Morey earlier today. Can you imagine Pat Riley doing something like this?
There are several highlights in the thread, but my favorite Morey response was to a question from a Reddit user asking “hows yao ming in person” [sic]:
“A great person which people always say but actually true in this case. I think the quality he has as a person that many don’t know about is that he is extremely funny. He was by far the funniest person in the locker room. Most jokes I cannot print there is one time I remember I can talk about. During the pre-season required drug testing, all the players were lined up to pee in a cup and Yao Ming looking to all of them and said, ‘why am I the only one not nervous’?”
Regardless of whether or not you needed a reminder of why Yao Ming is awesome, there you have it. I’d bet my house that you won’t find a funnier 7-foot-6 Chinese guy on the planet.
