With Matthew Dellavedova’s three-point attempt at the buzzer coming up too long, No. 11 St. Mary’s comeback attempt came up just a little short against No. 6 Memphis.
The Gaels, who cruised past Middle Tennessee in a Tuesday play-in game, were down seven to the Tigers with just over 40 seconds remaining when an 8-3 run, which included a banked in three-pointer and an inbounds steal within the last five seconds, gave them a shot at the tie or win at the buzzer.
Again, Dellavedova was way long on his last second heave, but an earlier three-point attempt from St. Mary’s was much more indicative of their late rally…
For me, it means I’ve already swung and missed on a couple of potential Cinderella teams (St. Mary’s and Bucknell) that I had dancing all the way to the Sweet 16. Ah well, come on Davidson!
