- On Saturday, only one of the eight games finished within five points and five of them were decided by 17 points or more. On Sunday, four games were decided by six points or less and five of the eight games came down to the final minute, including two games that were decided in the final seconds. Saturday’s games were decided by an average of 15.9 points, while today’s games were decided by an average of just 8.4 points.

- The upset of the day, again, belonged to Florida Gulf Coast University, who became the first No. 15 seed to ever advance to the Sweet 16. And yes, you can already buy Eagles Sweet 16 apparel.

Rovell had a couple more gems for us when it comes to Florida Gulf Coast…

- The state of Florida in general dominated play on Sunday, as FGCU, Miami and Florida all punched tickets to the Sweet 16.

- While Sunday gave us some absolute thrillers on the court, it also gave us a few questionable officiating decisions to complain about. In Dayton, Ohio State’s Aaron Craft draws the charge against Iowa State when he may have been in the restricted area and it looked like he was clearly moving and should have been called for a block (see why that call was so crucial here)

Later in Austin, the officials somehow deemed that this ball went off of Illinois out of bounds when it clearly made contact with a Miami player last.

- On Saturday it was reported that UCLA would be firing head coach Ben Howland and on Sunday it became official. Howland went 233-107 over 10 seasons at the helm of the Bruins, leading the team to three Final Fours during that time.

- Potential NBA lottery pick Michael Carter-Williams helped Syracuse hold off California on Saturday night, but news broke on Sunday that while the point guard was leading the Orange on the court, his family’s house was being significantly damaged by a three-alarm fire. Thankfully, everyone inside escaped and none of Carter-Williams’ family members were hurt in the fire and.

- Player of the day honours for Sunday go to Kansas centre Jeff Withey, who posted 16 points, 16 rebounds and five blocks to help the Jayhawks pull away from the Tar Heels in Kansas City. Honourable mentions go out to Ohio State point guard Aaron Craft and and La Salle guard Tyrone Garland, who may not have had huge statistical games, but who both hit game winning shots in the final few seconds of regulation.
