This year’s tournament has had a pattern of the second day of a round producing much more entertaining and thrilling basketball than the first day. Given that three of the first four Sweet Sixteen games were decided by 10 points or more on Thursday night, we’re all hoping that Friday continues the trend of Day 2 thrillers.

Other than a Harvard shocker at the end of the night, Day 1 of the 2013 NCAA Tournament wasn’t exactly the most memorable, as blowouts dominated the day. Here’s hoping Day 2 is more like the Madness we expect from March.

I have questions about why we have to call call the round of 64 the “second” round when the “First Four” is more of a preliminary round than an actual first round, and I also want to know why there are “East” Region games being played in California (can we just name the four regions after legends already?), but none of those questions or the answers to them matter right now. What matters is the 12 hours of basketball we’re about to digest today and the three weeks of basketball madness we are about to embark on.
